Box Score 2 PINEVILLE, La. – The Alma College baseball team started its 2021 season down at Louisiana College on Saturday. The Scots fell in both games of a doubleheader by scores of 12-6 and 15-4. The highlight of the day for the Scots was senior Jaret Koin breaking the program's career hits record with four today.
Koin passed Jeremy Stephens '09 record of 152 career hits with a single during the first game in the top of the second that also knocked in a run for Alma. The Sterling native now owns 155 career hits through 132 games played in a Scots' uniform.
In game one, Alma got off to a good start in the top of first with two runs thanks to three straight hits to lead it off. The Scots were able to add on two in the second and then two more in the third with a 2-RBI double by Macguire Hawley. At that point, the Scots led 6-2.
Louisiana would use a big fifth and sixth inning to take a commanding lead and win the opening game of the season.
In game two, the Wildcats were the ones to get off to an early lead and the Scots were playing catch up for the rest of the contest. Avery Carnicom hit Alma's first home run of the season with a two-run shot to left center in the fifth inning.
The Scots and Wildcats will play two more on Sunday (Feb. 7) with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. EST.
