Baseball Falls in Final Regular Season Home Game at Klenk Park

ALMA, Mich. – Beginning play for the final Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association series of the regular season, the Alma College baseball team, who received votes in this past week d3baseball.com national poll, hosted the Albion College Britons at Klenk Park to start the three-game series. Albion took control, jumping out to an early lead and continued to stack up runs over the course of six innings, handing the Scots a loss in their final regular season game at Klenk Park for the 2026 season, 14-0.

Both teams saw a quick first inning go by their eyes as both starting pitchers made easy work to kick the game off. The Britons scored the first run of the game, coming in the second inning on a sacrifice fly. A home run from the visitors in the third put the Scots down three before Albion was able to tack on more in the fifth. Two more in the fourth, followed by four in the fifth put the Britons up by nine, leaving the Scots in dangerous territory. A three-spot in the sixth and two runs in the seventh from Albion sealed the deal and left the Scots scoreless in a run-rule shortened game, the first time back on the field since sweeping nationally ranked Kalamazoo College. The Scots found hits throughout the day, though struggled to string multiple together to send any base runners across home plate.

Starting on the mound for the Scots was Cole Grunwald, pitching three and a third innings of work while striking out six. Tyler Lasley and Kaden Warren combined for two innings on the bump, followed by Ryan Koob who saw two thirds of an inning and recorded one whiff. Josh West pitched the final inning for the Scots, allowing one hit. Grady Pieratt was the lone Scots batter with multiple hits in the game going two for three. Kyler Warren drew two walks as well.

Alma will close out the season series tomorrow, Friday, May 1st, as they will play a doubleheader at Albion. First pitch is slated for 1:00 PM and game two will be 30 minutes following the conclusion of the opening game.
