Scots battle in double OT but fall to Comets

Box Score

OLIVET, Mich. – Alma College Men's Soccer traveled to Olivet College on Tuesday, Oct. 5 for a double overtime battle that favored the Comets in the end, 2-1.

Alma made a statement early in the game with an unassisted goal from Ethan Swartzentruber in the first two minutes of play to put the Scots up 1-0. Olivet found an opening in the net 20 minutes later to tie the game 1-1 at first half.

The second half was a defensive battle for both teams. No goals were allowed from the Scots or the Comets forcing the game into extra play. Overtime continued the physical and defensive game with no goals again. Double overtime was the turning point for the Comets. Olivet put the ball in the back of the net for the final score of 2-1.

Head Coach John Greer noted Jarod Arendsen as a bright spot on the day. Arendsen won the majority of his individual battles and had a dominating presence in the middle. Coach Greer also noted goalkeeper Chris Henry with 10 saves in goal.

"Games like that are decided by little details and we didn't get enough of those details right," said Coach Greer.

The Scots are back at Scotland Yard for their next game against Kalamazoo College on Saturday, Oct. 9.
