Box Score Clermont, Fla. - The Alma College softball team took down Capital University (OH) on Tuesday (Feb. 24) morning.
The Scots (3-0) broke the game open late with three runs in the sixth inning and five more in the seventh.
Sophomore first baseman Becca Spenner (Berrien Center, Mich. / Lakeshore) led all players with five RBI on two doubles and a single. Sophomore third baseman Hannah Fleming (Rogers City, Mich. / Rogers City) had two doubles and two RBI.
Daniella Little (Wheaton, Ill. / Glenbard South) struck out six batters and allowed three runs – all unearned– on five hits in her first collegiate start.
The game was tied at one until the top of the sixth when Spenner doubled home Cassidy Tucker (Coleman, Mich. / Coleman) and Madyson Piche (Sault Sainte Marie, Mich. / Sault Area). Fleming knocked Spenner in during the next at-bat. The duo teamed up again in the seventh, this time with Spenner delivering a 3-RBI triple. Fleming followed by doubling her home.
Alma will play the Crusaders again at noon on Tuesday (Feb. 25) before taking on Cabrini University (PA) at 2:30 p.m.
