Men's Soccer Drops Difficult Match to Aurora

Aurora, Ill. - The Alma College men's soccer team fell in a tough 3-2 decision to Aurora University (Ill.) on Friday (Aug. 30) evening.

Both sophomore Danten McFate (Haslett, Mich. / Haslett) and freshman Keegan Hobson (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Grand Blanc High School) scored their first career goals in the game.

Aurora started the scoring after an Alma turnover in their own defensive third. The Scots and McFate responded with a goal off a corner kick in the 28th minute.

In the 70th minute, Hobson sent a rocket to the top right corner of the net from 25 yards out to give Alma the lead.

The Spartans answered in the 81st minute when Alma failed to clear a ball in the middle of the box. They scored the game-winning goal with 3:08 remaining.

Senior keeper Garrison Mast (Grand Haven, Mich. / Grand Haven) made six saves in the game.

The Scots return to action on Saturday (Aug. 31) against Benedictine University (Ill.) for a match at 5:30 p.m.
