Box Score 1 Alma, Mich. - The Alma College softball team swept Kalamazoo College on Sunday afternoon's senior day by scores of 4-1 and 8-1. Morgan Stratton (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) and Katie McClure (Manchester, Mich./Manchester) earned wins in each game, while Stratton picked up her first save of the season in game two. Both pitchers combined to allow an opponent batting average of .106 on the day, giving up five total hits.
Before the doubleheader, the program recognized its six-member senior class: Stratton, Celeste Boyer (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon East), Anna Couture (Posen, Mich./Posen), Kelsey Spencer (Eaton Rapids, Mich./Eaton Rapids), Kayla Holz (Bad Axe, Mich./Bad Axe) and Danielle Service (Mason, Mich./Mason).
Alma (16-4, 6-0 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) trailed 1-0 after the top of the first inning of game one. It responded with an RBI single from McClure in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game. McClure added another RBI in the bottom of the third. She finished with a team-high four RBI on the day.
The Scots added two more runs in the fifth inning when McKenzie Creed (Edwardsburg, Mich./Edwardsburg) singled home Chelsea Schweiger (St. Clair, Mich./St. Clair). Katie Long (Grand Rapids, Mich./West Catholic) pinch ran for Creed and and scored on a double by Service. Service maintains her position as the conference leader in slugging percentage at .787. She is also third in the MIAA in batting average (.459) and on base percentage (.500).
Game two saw Alma jump out to a 3-0 lead after two innings. Mary Brooks (Portland, Mich./Portland) doubled down the right field line, scoring Schweiger and Couture in the first inning. Brooks leads the conference in batting average at .491 and on base percentage at .540. Schweiger would add an RBI on a groundout to the pitcher in the second inning.
Alma added five more runs in the sixth inning. Service scored on an error by Kalamazoo's (10-12, 1-5 MIAA) third baseman. Averi Munro (Morrice, Mich./Morrice) scored when Schweiger reached on an error, who would come around to score when Brooks grounded out to second. McClure added a two-run double in the inning.
Alma is scheduled to return to Scots' Park on Wednesday for a doubleheader against Calvin. First pitch is 3:30 p.m.
