Box Score 2 Anderson, Ind. - The Alma College softball team split a two-game series against Anderson University on Wednesday (March 29). Alma (10-4) won game one 6-2 and lost game two 2-1.
Danielle Service (Mason, Mich./Mason) hit her third home run in as many games to take the team lead in that category. Her solo shot led off the sixth inning and extended Alma's lead to 5-1. Service is the team leader in slugging percentage at .738. The Scots picked up four runs in the third inning. Anna Couture (Posen, Mich./Posen) doubled to center field, scoring Cassidy Tucker (Coleman, Mich./Coleman) from second to tie the game at one. Later, Mary Brooks (Portland, Mich./Portland) singled to center field, scoring both Chelsea Schweiger (St. Clair, Mich./St. Clair) and Couture. Brooks leads the team in batting average at .487. She scored from third on a wild pitch to give Alma a 4-1 lead.
Morgan Stratton (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) pitched all seven innings, allowing eight hits and two runs and striking out six batters.
McKenzie Creed (Edwardsburg, Mich./Edwardsburg) went 2-for-3 in game two and Couture hit the team's only RBI on a double to left-center field, scoring Kelsey Spencer (Eaton Rapids, Mich./Eaton Rapids) in the top of the fifth. Alma went 2-for-4 in game two with running in scoring position. Conversely, Anderson (6-8) went 0-for-7. Both the Ravens' runs came after errors in the fourth and sixth innings.
Katie McClure (Manchester, Mich./Manchester) pitched all six innings and gave up five hits, two runs (none earned) and three strikeouts.
Alma is scheduled to play on Thursday at Manchester University in Indiana.
