Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's soccer team hosted 24th-ranked Hope College at Scotland Yard on Thursday (Oct. 26). After recording back-to-back 3-2 wins over Calvin and Saint Mary's, the Scots fell to the Flying Dutch, 3-1.
Hope's Allie Wittenbach led the Dutch with three points, assisting on an Erin Brophy goal in the 15th minute and scoring the lone goal of the second half. The Scots' goal came in the 22nd minute after the ball was headed into the net by a Hope defender who was trying to clear away a shot by senior Whitnee Foote (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Mt. Pleasant)
Senior keeper Kelsey Postema (Marshall, Mich./Marshall) made five saves in the contest.
How It Happened
- Hope struck early with Erin Brophy scoring on an assist from Allie Wittenbach, bringing Brophy to five goals and Wittenbach to a team-high six assists on the season.
- The Scots tied the match in the 22nd minute on an own goal by a Hope defender.
- The Flying Dutch took a 2-1 lead into halftime after a header by Rachel Braginton in the 40th minute.
- Hope's third and final goal came off the leg of Wittenbach in the 54th minute.
Notables
- Entering the match, Hope had not allowed a goal since their Sept. 30 matchup at Trine University (IN). Today's goal by Foote is only the third goal scored against Hope by an MIAA team this season.
- Kelsey Postema has now posted five saves in 10 of her 15 starts this season.
