Scots Battle Kalamazoo to Season's First Tie

Alma, Mich. - The Alma College men's soccer team walked away from Scotland Yard on Saturday afternoon with its first tie of the season. Neither team allowed the other to score in a rematch of last season's MIAA Semifinal.

The Scots (5-1-1, 1-0-1 MIAA) had five shots on goal to Kalamazoo's (0-1-4, 0-0-2 MIAA) six. Keeper Nick Strait (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) increased his clean sheet total to five after saving all six shots he faced. Strait has allowed just one goal in six games this season, leading the conference in goals against, goals against average (0.16), saves (48) and save percentage (.980).

Alma outshot the Hornets seven to two in overtime, but only got one shot on goal. Austin Gabris (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) led the team in shots with five; three other Scots were tied for second with two. Gabris is second in the MIAA with 24 shots.

The Scots have two road matches next week, beginning with Olivet on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 4:00 p.m.
