Box Score Lexington, Ky. - The Alma College men's soccer team dropped its first game of the season 1-0 at Transylvania on Sunday afternoon. The loss snaps a four game winning streak, the Scots' (4-1, 0-0 MIAA) longest since they won six straight games in the 2013 season. In addition to losing their first game, the Scots also allowed a goal for the first time this season, breaking a streak of 438 minutes to start the year.
Transylvania's (3-0-1, 0-0 HCAC) goal came in the 79th minute, just a few minutes after freshman Kyle Costigan (East Tawas, Mich./Tawas Area) had what might have been Alma's best opportunity to score. After receiving a pass on the right side of the box and with the keeper coming out to challenge him, Costigan shot the ball past the keeper but a player on Transylvania's back line knocked it away.
Alma was outshot 32 to seven overall and 18 to two in shots on goal. Senior keeper Nick Strait (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) recorded a career high 17 saves, breaking his previous career high of 12 set against Central College earlier this year.
The loss closes out a three game road trip for the Scots, who return home to begin MIAA play this week. Alma will take on Hope College at Scotland Yard on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 4 p.m.
