Box Score 2 Clermont, Fla. - The #11 Alma College softball team packed up and traveled to Clermont, Florida to participate in their annual spring season-opening games at The Spring Games. Alma opened up their first day in a double header fashion facing off against John Carroll University and Ohio Northern University.
The Scots would fall to both teams, being defeated by John Carroll 3-2, before dropping a 9-1 decision against Ohio Northern University in six innings. At the conclusion of today's contests, Alma heads in to Tuesday with an 0-2 record.
Game One
The Alma College softball team opened up their season opener against John Carroll University at 9:00 a.m this morning. The Scots would end up falling to John Carroll in a 3-2 fashion.
Game Two
In a quick turn around after facing John Carroll at 9:00 a.m. the Scots turned around and took on Ohio Northern University.
After three outs for the Scots in the top of the first the Polar Bears came out swinging early on Monday morning notching five runs with five RBI's in the first two innings.
Alma found some life in the top of the third when lead off hitter, senior Kassidi Adams (Montrose, Mich./Montrose) singled to third base. Junior Jade Garcia (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) followed up with a strong at bat for a walk to put the runners on first and second. Junior Anna Couture (Posen, Mich./Posen) singled advancing the runners to second and third. With one out on the board sophomore Mary Brooks (Portland, Mich./Portland) reached first on a fielder's choice to advance Adams in for their first and only run of the game. One more out closed the deal for the Scots in the top of the third.
Ohio Northern would be unable to answer in the bottom of the third but managed to score three runs in the bottom of the fourth and another run in the bottom of the sixth to seal the deal and walk away with the 9-1 win.
Alma will pick back up tomorrow for another double header against Capital University and Franklin College. The Scots will begin their first game against Capital at 11:00 a.m. followed by a battle against Franklin College at 1:00 p.m.
