Box Score Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Alma College men's soccer team fell in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship game to Calvin College 4-2 on Saturday afternoon. The Scots got goals from Lucas Foust (Brooklyn, Mich./Jackson Lumen Christi) and Austin Gabris (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake). Alma finishes the season 14-6-1 overall and 9-4-1 in the conference. The team's total of 14 wins is the most since 1999 when it won 16 games.
Calvin jumped out to a one goal lead in the 18th minute. Alma went on to score the next two goals, the first coming from Foust in the 22nd minute. Gabris had a deep throw-in and launched it to the back post where Foust headed it past Calvin's keeper to tie the game.
Gabris scored, himself, in the 31st minute. Noah Canlas (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) sent a corner kick to the near post which Gabris flicked along a header to the far post to put the Scots up 2-1. Alma was held scoreless in both previous matchups against Calvin this year.
The Knights tied the score just before the half and reeled off two more goals in the second to take the lead. Nick Strait (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) made seven saves in the loss.
