Scots Allow Goal in Final Minute, Fall to Kalamazoo 2-1 in 2OT

Box Score

Kalamazoo, Mich. - The Alma College men's soccer team fell to Kalamazoo 2-1 in double overtime on a goal scored in the 110th minute on Tuesday evening. The loss snaps a three game winning streak for the Scots (9-4-1, 5-3-1 MIAA).

Kalamazoo's game-winning goal came after a long cross from the edge of the neutral third to the middle of the box. The ball bounced around and was headed in by Roger Mason Darling past the diving keeper, Garrison Mast (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven).

After a scoreless first half, senior Josh Carolan (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Pointe) scored his second goal of the season in the 54th minute. Alma threw in the ball deep in its offensive zone toward the Kalamazoo keeper who attempted to punch it out of the box. The ball fell to Carolan's foot and he shot and scored just under the crossbar.

Kalamazoo tied the game in the 83rd minute. Kyle Hernandez had the ball on the right side of the box. He passed to Cal Kirchen in the middle of the box who shot through the defense to the far post and scored past Mast. Prior to tonight's game, Mast did not allow a goal all season.

The Scots' next game is Saturday, October 15. They will host Olivet at 2:30 p.m. at Scotland Yard.
