Box Score Alma, Mich. - Kyle Kansman (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) and Hebren Hein (Jackson, Mich./Jackson) recored their first goals of the season as the Alma College men's soccer team snapped a two game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over Trine University on Saturday afternoon. Kansman tallied two goals in the contest while Hein posted one.
Kansman broke a scoreless tie in the eleventh minute off a throw-in from Austin Gabris (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake). He was positioned in the box and snuck in a header off the throw to the near post past Trine keeper William Macedo. Hein added to the Alma lead with a fantastic goal in the 25th minute. Roughly 10 yards out, he ripped a one-time shot off a deflection to the far top corner.
Less than five minutes later, Trine's Bill Wilson cut the score in half. Kyle Wainscott brought the ball into the box and forced Alma keeper Nick Strait (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) to come out and challenge him. Wainscott lost the ball, but Wilson picked it up, dribbled around Strait and shot through two Alma defenders to make it a one goal game before halftime. Strait did not face much trouble in the game other than this one sequence. He saw only three shots on goal and saved two of them.
Kansman's second goal came in the 62nd minute. Following a corner kick, a scuffle occurred in front of the net. With multiple players in the area and Macedo on the ground, Kansman was able to punch the ball past the goal line to make Alma's lead more comfortable.
Alma outshot Trine 22-15 overall and seven to three in shots on goal. Alma also earned more corner kicks, nine to six. Both teams were called for 10 fouls and were given one yellow card.
The Scots are on the road for their next three matches. They will start the road trip at Adrian on Wednesday, October 5 at 7:00 p.m.
Quotes
Head Coach Josh Oakley
"It was a 'just good enough performance' today despite really difficult field conditions. [Trine] went close midway through the 2nd half, and worked hard for the entire game against us."
"Our team is under no illusions. We are striving to focus on details. Every game in this league is a tough grind and regardless of who you are playing, or what round we are playing them in, it's a real battle - with everyone."
