Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Alma College men's soccer season came to a close at Calvin College this afternoon where the Scots fell to the #1 Knights 3-0 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) championship game. Alma concludes the season with an overall record of 12-7-1 and a conference record of 8-5-1 while Calvin improves to an overall record of 20-0-1.

Alma has made strides this season reaching 12 wins which has not been done since the 1999 season. Today's game was also the first time the men's soccer team has competed in the MIAA championship since the 2000 campaign.

The Knights scored early in the fourth minute to give them the 1-0 advantage. After the first goal the Scots fought back and found a few shots on goal but were unable to score. Calvin would score one more time in the half to go in to halftime with the 2-0 lead. A final goal for Calvin came at the 50th minute to bring Calvin to the 3-0 victory.

Sophomore Sam Falardeau (Mason, Mich./Mason), senior Chad Buitenhuis (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) and senior Julian Birge (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) all had one shot on goal leading the way.

Junior Nick Strait (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) was in net for the Scots and he tallied six saves in the loss to the Knights. Strait's record now stands at 12-5-1.

The Alma College men's soccer team is saying goodbye to 12 seniors who have dedicated many years to the program during its successful rebuilding years.
