Alma, Mich. - The Alma College men's soccer team jumped out to the 1-0 lead after a goal from senior Aaron Bender (Marquette, Mich./Marquette Senior High School) but the game wound up tied 1-1 at the end of two overtimes. At the end of the match the Scots are now 8-3-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA), while Hope sits at 5-7-1 overall and 2-5-1 in conference play. 

The Scots had three corner kicks and finally found the back of the net when senior Zach Vandeveer (Elk Rapids, Mich./Elk Rapids) had a throw in that connected with Bender who put a header in for the 1-0 lead in the 19th minute.

Alma finished the half with eight shots to Hope's four as they maintained the 1-0 lead going in to the second half of regulation.

Hope managed to get past the Scots defense early in the second half on a 20 yard kick that went off the Alma's keeper in the 47th minute. The game remained tied through regulation forcing the teams to go in to two overtimes. Each team had opportunities in the overtimes but neither could muster a goal, tying the game 1-1 through 110 minutes of play. 

Junior Nick Strait (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) was in the net for the Scots. He recorded seven saves in eight shots on goal. At the end of the day his record stands at 8-2-1 on the 2015 season. 

After the tie at Scotland Yard the Scots will hit the road as they travel to Olivet, Mich. to take on Olivet College this Wednesday (Oct. 14) with a kick off time set for 4:00 p.m.
