Box Score On Tuesday afternoon, the Alma College Men's Soccer team played in their first road game of the MIAA season when they traveled to Olivet College. The visiting Scots scored midway through the first half and held on for a 1-0 victory over the Comets.
With the win, Alma improved to 1-2 in the MIAA and 2-3-2 overall, while Olivet is now 3-4 in 2014 and 1-2 in the league.
The only goal of the game came at the 22:00 mark when Sr. M Max Vanderpool (Augusta/Galesburg-Augusta) scored unassisted to make it a 1-0 contest. There would be no other goals after that as the Scots' defense gave up a few shots but no goals.
In the first half, Alma had two shots on goal, while the Comets had four and corner kicks favored Olivet by a four to one margin.
For the game, the Comets had eight shots on goal and all were saved by Alma So. GK Nick Strait (Jenison/Jenison), who earned the shutout win. The Scots had four shots on goal in the game - Vanderpool, Jr. M Chad Buitenhuis (Grand Haven/Grand Haven), So. F Tyler Raab (Mason/Mason) and Jr. F Zach Vandeveer (Elk Rapids/Elk Rapids).
