Box Score Head Coach Josh Oakley and the Alma College Men's Soccer team opened up conference play on Wednesday afternoon by welcoming Calvin College to Scotland Yard. The Scots would fall 4-0 at home to the Knights in a highly contested match that saw 23 fouls called between both clubs.
With the loss, Alma drops to 1-2-2 on the year and 0-1 in the MIAA. Calvin improves to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play with the victory.
The opening minutes of the match saw seven fouls called between the teams before the Knights would find the back of the net at the 16:24 mark to take the 1-0 advantage.
Calvin would strike again just over six minutes later to stretch the lead to 2-0 at the 22:58 mark.
At 40:32, the Knights would score once more and take the 3-0 advantage after one half of play.
The visitors kept the pressure up in the second half, finding the back of the net again at 64:20 to extend the lead to 4-0.
Calvin continued to press Alma for the remainder of the match, and despite some late shot attempts by the Scots, the Knights left Scotland Yard with the 4-0 victory.
Jr. F Aaron Bender (Marquette/Marquette Senior High School) led Alma with three shots (one on goal) and Jr. MF Julian Birge (East Lansing/East Lansing) contributed two shots (one on goal) in the loss.
In goal, Sr. GK Brett Galloway (Clinton Township/Chippewa Valley) (0-1-2) got the loss after allowing four goals on four shots on goal in 90:00 minutes played.
The Scots return home on Saturday, Sep. 20, to take on Albion College at 2:30 p.m.
