Box Score The Alma College Men's Soccer team hit the road on Saturday to take on Kalamazoo College at Mackenzie Field. The Scots earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory on the road, in a match that saw four yellow cards given out.
With the win, the Scots improve to 7-7-2 overall with a 6-6 mark in the MIAA. The Hornets drop to 9-6-2 overall and 7-4-1 in conference play with the loss.
Things got chippy early on Saturday afternoon, with four fouls and two yellow cards being given out in the first nine minutes of play.
At 78:22, Alma would receive its second yellow card of the afternoon and the score remained 0-0 at Mackenzie Field.
Both teams struggled to find their offense in the first half, and the score showed 0-0 after the first 45 minutes of action.
The Scots offense kicked it into high gear in the second half, recording four shots before Jr. MF Julian Birge (East Lansing/East Lansing) scored on a penalty kick to put the visitors up 1-0 at 32:28.
The final 30 minutes of the match saw both teams crank up the defensive pressure. The last half hour saw only four shots between the two clubs and the Scots left Kalamazoo with a huge 1-0 victory.
In goal, So. GK Nick Strait (Jenison/Jenison) collected the win to improve to 4-3 on the year after recording five saves in 90:00 minutes.
Alma held the advantage in both shots (10-9) and corner kicks (7-3) over the Hornets.
The Scots will travel to Holland, MI on Wednesday, Oct 29, to take on Hope College at 7:00 p.m.
