The Alma College Men's Soccer team took the 100-mile trip south on Wednesday to take on Albion College in a huge matchup in the MIAA. Following a scoreless first half, the visiting Scots would strike in the 79th minute to get the key conference road win 1-0 on Wednesday.

With the victory, Alma improves to 5-6-2 overall and 4-5 in MIAA contests. The win also gives the Scots sole possession of fifth place in the conference, breaking the tie with the Britons.

As expected in a MIAA match, this game was a hard-fought contest right from the start. It got chippy early on Wednesday with 12 fouls being called in the first half alone.

Alma got on the offensive early on the road, collecting six shots to just two for the Britons in the first half.

Neither team was able to locate the back of the net in half one and the scoreboard read 0-0 after the first 45 minutes.

The second half proved to be as highly contested as the first with more fouls and yellow cards being handed out.

Each team would exchange 11 shots (six for Albion and five for Alma) before the Scots would bust the game wide open in the 79th minute. 

At 79:19, Jr. F Spencer Sandow (Midland/Midland) would find Jr. M Jon Buitenhuis (Grand Haven/Grand Haven) who would sneak it in behind the Briton goalie to put the visitors up 1-0.

Following the goal, neither team would record another shot and the Scots left Albion with the 1-0 conference victory on the road.

Alma held the statistical advantage in shots 12-8 while the teams tied with five corner kicks each.

This match featured 25 total fouls and four yellow cards.

In goal, Sr. GK Brett Galloway (Clinton Township/Chippewa Valley) got the win after collecting two saves to improve to 2-3-2 on the year.
