Box Score 1

Sr. P Louise Rezmer (Essexville, Mich./Bay City All-Saints) pitched a five-inning no-hitter in the first game of a doubleheader at Albion College on Wednesday afternoon. Rezmer struck out 10 batters and had just one walk in leading the Scots to the 9-0 victory.

Rezmer's no-hitter is the 20th all-time in school history with the last one being by Melissa Tavidian vs. Tri-State on April 28, 2005.

The Scots also took game two from Albion with a 9-1 five-inning victory. Alma is now 4-0 in the MIAA and 14-5 overall, while the Britons fell to 0-2 in the league and 0-16 for 2013.

Against the Britons in game one, the Scots took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. So. Cori Witham (N. Muskegon, Mich./N. Muskegon) and Jr. DH Chanler McCaskey (Morenci, Mich./Morenci) led the frame off with singles and advanced to second and third on an error. The next batter, Sr. SS Erin Rodes (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth), singled to score both runners.

Alma had chances to score in both the third and fourth innings but could get the key hit. However, the Scots put the game away with seven runs in the top of the fifth inning for the decisive 9-0 advantage.

In the frame, Alma had six hits and were helped by a Albion error in scoring the seven runs. Five different players had RBI's in the inning - Witham, Rodes, Fr. LF Sarah Collier (Fenton, Mich./Fenton), Fr. CF Sam Merillat (Hudson, Mich./Hudson) and So. 3B Lea Lusk (Columbiaville, Mich./Lakeville). Collier and Merillat each had doubles during the rally.

For the game, the team pounded out 12 hits in the five innings. Lusk went two for four with an RBI, Rodes three for three (with a triple) with three RBI's and Witham finished two for three with an RBI to pace the Scots.

In the nightcap, Alma jumped on the Britons quickly as they scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Sr. RF Amanda Schneider (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) singled and stole second. So. CF Brooke Hein (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) then walked and stole second as Schneider stole third.

Lusk then bunted for a single and knocked in a run. Sr. 2B Kayla Smart (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) was up next and Hein stole home and Lusk took second. Smart then followed with a double scoring Lusk and Alma led 3-0. Fr. 1B Abi Clark (Clinton, Mich./Clinton) singled next and Smart scored on a throwing error. Alma then made it 5-0 on a hit by Fr. C Kayla Merice Dorr, Mich./Wayland) that brought Clark across the plate.

The Scots made it 7-0 in the bottom of the second inning with a pair of runs. Smart walked with one out and moved to second on a wild pitch and Fr. PR Lyndsay Ruckle (Lake, Mich./Farwell) pinch ran. Following out two, Witham singled to bring Ruckle home. Jr. PR Allie Jo Nave (Onaway, Mich./Onaway) pinch ran and stole second. Merice then singled scoring Nave from second.

Alma scored a single run in the bottom of the third to lead 8-0 before Albion finally got on the board with a single run in the top of the fourth to make it a seven-run deficit. The Scots then scored in the bottom of the frame for the eight run lead and got the Britons out in the top of the fifth to end the game.

So. P Samantha Pierce (Clarklake, Mich./Michigan Center) pitched four innings, allowing two hits and an earned run, while striking out two to earn the win. Fr. P McKenna Terrill (Marcellus, Mich./Marcellus) pitched the final inning and gave up a hit and struck out one batter. At the plate, Witham went two for three and an RBI, while Merice finished two for three with two RBI's.

The Scots will play at Calvin on Friday afternoon for a doubleheader against the Knights. On Saturday, Alma will host Adrian on Saturday for two games that mark the first home contests of the year.

Friday's doubleheader begins at 3:30, while Saturday is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. at Scots Park.
