Men's Soccer falls at Calvin 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon

The Alma College men's soccer team traveled to league-leading Calvin on Wednesday evening and were defeated 3-0. With the loss, the Scots are 7-5 overall with a 3-3 mark in the conference. The Knights improve to 6-4 overall and continue to lead the MIAA with a 5-1 conference mark with the victory.

Calvin applied pressure in the first half, outshooting the Scots 8-1. Alma did not bend thanks to strong play by Sr. GK Graham Wallace (Grand Rapids/Forest Hills Eastern) and the score was 0-0 heading into the second half.

The Knights ended the scoring drought at the 61:36 mark with a goal by Stephan Hooker off a Sean Broekhuizen assist. Hooker would find the goal again in the 75th minute to give Calvin the 2-0 advantage. A goal by Zach Willis in the 87th minute would secure the 3-0 victory for the Knights.

In the loss, the Scots were outshot 24-6 and lost the corner-kick battle 7-6.

In goal, Wallace recorded eight saves for Alma and Andrew Claucherty tallied two for Calvin.

The Scots hit the field again on Saturday, Oct. 12 to take on Hope at 7 p.m.
