Box Score On a cool and rainy afternoon, the Alma College men's soccer team defeated Trine 1-0 at home on Tuesday. With the win, the Scots improve to 8-4 overall with a 4-4 mark in conference play. The Thunder drop to 2-10-1 on the year and 0-8 in the MIAA.
"This was a result that was needed after two tough road games," said Alma Head Coach Josh Oakley. "Our goal was superb, just a fantastic effort by the four guys involved."
It only took Alma two shots to find the back of the net when So. M Julian Birge (East Lansing/East Lansing) scored at the 8:34 mark off an assist by So. M Matt Sovis (Williamston/Willamston). Alma recorded seven shots in the first half but were unable to extend the 1-0 advantage heading into the second half.
Trine attempted five shots in the second half, but strong play by Alma's Sr. GK Graham Wallace (Grand Rapids/Forest Hills Eastern) sealed the 1-0 victory for the Scots at home.
Alma was outshot 10-9 but held the 7-5 cornerkick advantage over the Thunder.
In goal, Wallace finished with four saves, improving his record to 6-3, while Chris Stewart saved three for Trine in the loss.
The Scots are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 19, when they hit the road to face Adrian at 2:30 p.m.
