Men's Soccer loses at Hope College 4-1 on Saturday night

The Alma College men's soccer team fell to Hope 4-1 on the road on Saturday night. With the loss, the Scots now are 7-4 overall, with a 3-4 mark in conference play. Hope improved to 9-3-1 on the year with a 5-2 MIAA record.

"It was a very unlucky night for us," said Alma Head Coach Josh Oakley. "There was just a lot that tipped out of our favor but our guys showed tremendous resolve scoring in our first attack just minutes into the second half ... we are determined to get the job done in the second half of the conference season."

Hope scored the only goal of the first half, at 43:53 and the Flying Dutchmen went into halftime with the 1-0 lead. Alma answered quickly in the second half when a goal from So. M Chad Buitenhuis (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) tied the score at 1-1 at the 46:24 mark. So. M Matt Sovis (Wiliamston, Mich./Williamston) had an assist on the tally.

Hope would score the tiebreaker just six minutes later and would finish with three unanswered to close the game out at 4-1. In the match, the Flying Dutchmen had 23 total shots (nine shots on goal) to Alma's 13 shots (six SOG).

In goal, Jr. GK Brett Galloway (Clinton Township, Mich./Chippewa Valley) finshied with five saves for Alma in the loss.

The Scots continue the MIAA season on Tuesday afternoon when they host Trine University at Scotland Yard. The match begins at 4:00 p.m.
