Scots Softball takes both games in their doubleheader against the Comets

The Alma College Softball team hosted Olivet College on Saturday afternoon in a league doubleheader at the new Scots Park. The home team improved their MIAA record to 7-1 and 19-7 overall by sweeping the Comets by scores of 10-0 and 10-1 in the two games. Olivet finished the afternoon with a 2-2 league mark and a mark of 7-15 in 2012.

In the first game, the Scots scored two runs in the first inning, and four each in the third and fourth to record the five-inning victory. Jr. P Louise Rezmer (Essexville, Mich./Bay City All-Saints) went five innings for the win on Pink Day 2012 for the Scots and earned the win. She gave up just one hit and had nine strikeouts.

Offensively, Sr. C Becca DeWyse (Bay City, Mich./All Saints) had three RBI's and Sr. 2B Erin Pintek (Flushing, Mich./Flushing) went three for three with two RBI's to lead the Scots' victory.

In the nightcap, Alma scored three runs in the top of the third inning, one in the fifth and six in the sixth to record the victory. Sr. 1B Emily Ross (Buchanan, Mich./Buchanan) went three for four with a homerun, three runs scored and a four RBI's.

The other offensive contributions included Jr. 2B Kayla Smart (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) who went two for four with two RBI's and Jr. OF Amanda Schneider (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) who finished the day at one for three with a run scored and two RBI's.

Fr. P Samantha Pierce (Clarklake, Mich./Michigan Center) pitched 4.2 innings and gave up seven hits with two strikeouts to earn the win. Rezmer finished the 1.1 innings of the contest to earn a save and preserve the Alma win against the Comets.  

Alma next plays on Wednesday afternoon when they host MIAA rival Trine University at Scots Park. The first game starts at 3:30 p.m.
