The Alma College softball team concluded the MIAA regular season on Sunday afternoon when they traveled to Saint Mary's College for a doubleheader. The two teams split the games, with the Belles winning game one 2-1 and the Scots taking the nightcap, 1-0 in eight innings.

Alma finishes the regular season with a league record of 11-5 an overall mark of 25-11, while Saint Mary's is now 10-6 in the MIAA and 27-11 in 2012. Both teams will play in the MIAA Tournament that begins on Thursday at Trine University. The Thunder finished league play at 15-1, and Adrian College rounds out the four-team competition.

In game one, Alma scored a run in the top of the third inning when Sr. CF Camille Dittmar (Highland, Mich./Milford) singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. She was driven home on a double by Jr. SS Erin Rodes (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth) for a 1-0 lead.

The Belles rallied for two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh and scored the winning run with two outs to take game one by a score of 2-1. Jr. P Louise Rezmer (Essexville, Mich./Bay City All-Saints) pitched for the Scots, giving up eight hits and striking out 12 but took the loss. Rodes finished three for three with the RBI for Alma.

Game two was equally tight due to excellent pitching on both sides. Alma scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning, as So. LF Grace Westerman (Gaylord, Mich./St. Mary's) led the frame off with a single. She advanced to second on a bunt and moved to third on a Rodes single. A fielder's choice by Sr. 1B Emily Ross (Buchanan, Mich./Buchanan) scored Westerman for the 1-0 victory. Rezmer pitched a complete game for the win and had five strikeouts in the win.

The schedule for the MIAA Tournament will be announced on Monday night after the conclusion of the day's games.
