Alma Softball loses suspended game versus Calvin, 2-1 in 11 innings

The suspended softball game between Alma and Calvin from Wednesday was resumed on Friday afternoon at Scots Park and the Knights prevailed by a score of 2-1 in 11 evenings. The loss dropped Alma to 24-10 overall and 10-4 in the MIAA, while Calvin left town with a 2012 mark of 14-20 and 5-9 in the league.

The game on Wednesday was stopped due to darkness with the score tied 0-0 going into the top of the ninth. 

Alma scored finally scored in the top of the 11th inning, when Jr. 2B Kayla Smart (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) squeeze bunted homeSr. 1B Emily Ross (Buchanan, Mich./Buchanan) from third for a 1-0 lead. Ross had started the inning at second base using international extra inning rules.

However, Calvin scored two runs with two outs in the bottom of the frame to walk off the field with the 2-1 victory. Fr. P Samantha Pierce (Clarklake, Mich./Michigan Center) pitched the first six innings for the Scots and gave up no runs on four hits. Jr. P Louise Rezmer (Essexville, Mich./Bay City All-Saints) took the loss for Alma and is now 12-5 on the season.
