Box Score The Alma College Softball team hosted Calvin College on Wednesday afternoon in an MIAA doubleheader at Scots Park and the Scots took game one by a score of 3-2 in nine innings. The second game was suspended due to darkness with the score 0-0 in the top of the ninth inning. The game will resume at a time to be determined.
The Knights took off early in the first inning scoring two runs, after a homerun off of Jr. Louise Rezmer (Essexville, Mich./Bay City All Saints). The Scots fought to come back though, scoring a run in the bottom of the third, again in the bottom of the sixth, and won the game with a final run in the bottom of the ninth.
So. Allie Jo Nave (Onaway, Mich./Onaway), Fr. Marie Zill (Chelsea, Mich. /Chelsea), and Fr. Brooke Hein (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids) each scored a run for the Scots. Sr. Rebecca DeWyse (Bay City, Mich./Bay City All-Saints) was credited the RBI hitting Nave in to score for the first run for the Scots andJr. Kayla Smart (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) singled, scoring Zill to tie the game.
In the ninth inning, Heins reached third on an error and later scored ending the game in the Scots favor. Jr. Amanda Schneider (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) went two for four on the day while Sr. Emily Ross (Buchanan, Mich./Buchanan) and Dewyse each hit one for four. Rezmer pitched all nine innings for the Scots, allowing only five hits while striking out 14.
In the nightcap, both teams remained scoreless into the ninth inning but the game was suspended due to darkness and resumption is yet to be determined.
