Scots Softball wins two games at Heidelberg on Monday afternoon in a non-league doubleheader

On Monday afternoon, the Alma College softball team traveled to Tiffin, Ohio to take on non-league opponent Heidelberg College. The Scots won both games of the doubleheader by scores of 11-1 (6 innings) and 21-13 to improve to 23-9 on the season, while the hosts dropped to 15-17 on the season.

In the first game, the Scots scored single runs in the first and third and took a 2-0 lead into the top of the fifth inning. Alma put the game away with three in the fifth and six more in the sixth, sandwiching one Heidelberg run in the bottom of the fifth for the 11-1 win.

Sr. C Becca Dewyse (Bay City, Mich./All-Saints) led the Alma attack by going three for four with six RBI's, including a double and a three-run homer. Jr. OF Amanda Schneider (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) was two for four, three runs scored and an RBI, while Jr. SS Erin Rodes (Plymouth, Mich. /Plymouth) finished the game with two RBI's and a run scored with two hits. Jr. P Louise Rezmer (Essexville, Mich./Bay City All-Saints) pitched six innings for the win, giving up five hits and striking out nine.

In the nightcap, the two teams combined for 34 runs and 39 hits, but in the end, Alma was victorious by a mark of 21-13. Each team scored three and two runs respectively in the first two innings as the teams were tied 5-5 going into the third. The Scots scored three in the top of the inning, while Heidelberg added six in the bottom for an 11-8 advantage.

Alma was able to outscore the hosts by a margin of 13-2 over the last three innings to capture the victory. Sr. 1B Emily Ross (Buchanon, Mich./ Buchanon) paced the Scots by going three for six, with a double, triple, a home run and six RBI's. Schneider went four for five with three runs, a triple and three RBI's, while Sr. 2B Erin Pintek (Flushing, Mich./Flushing) finished five for six with six RBI's and had three doubles.

Dewyse was three for five in game two with three runs scored, an RBI and a double, while Rezmer earned her second win from inside the circle by going the final 4.1 innings. She gave up two earned runs on five hits and had eight strikeouts.

The Scots continue MIAA action on Wednesday afternoon, when they host Calvin College at Scots Park in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
