Box Score 2 The Alma College Softball team hit the road on Saturday for a big MIAA doubleheader against Adrian and the teams played to a draw. The Scots won the first game 9-0 in six innings, while the Bulldogs took the nightcap by a score of 8-0 in five innings. The Scots come away from the split with a 3-1 MIAA record and are 12-7 overall, while the Bulldogs are an identical 3-1 in the league and 11-8 in 2012.
It was truly a tale of two distinct and different games as Alma dominated game one by jumping on Adrian P Kelly Eberhardt, a first-team All-MIAA selection in 2011, for five runs in the second inning. The Scots' inning began with a double by Sr. CF Camille Dittmar (Highland, Mich./Milford) and was highlighted by a bases clearing double by Jr. SS Erin Rodes (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth) that made the score 4-0 at the time.
Alma added a single run in the third when Dittmar walked, stole second and scored on a single by So. LF Grace Westerman (Gaylord, Mich./St. Mary's). The Scots added the three decisive runs in the top of the sixth in an inning that was spearheaded by run scoring singles by Fr. 3B Lea Lusk (Columbiaville, Mich./Lakeville) and Sr. DP Erin Pintek (Flushing, Mich./Flushing). In the circle, Jr. P Louise Rezmer (Essexville, Mich./Bay City All Saints) went all six innings for the win, giving up just one hit and striking out 12 batters.
Game two was quite the different story as they say. Adrian scored three in the first, three in the second and two in the third to get their 8-0 advantage. The Bulldogs scored four runs each against two Alma pitchers - Fr. Cory Witham (North Muskegon, Mich./North Muskegon) and Fr. Samantha Pierce (Clarklake, Mich./Michigan Center) - en route to the five inning win. Offensively, Alma could muster just three singles against Adrian P Brooke Stewart.
The Scots will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Holland to take on Hope College beginning at 3:30 p.m.
