Box Score 1 The Alma Softball team hit the road on Wednesday to begin MIAA action at Kalamazoo College. The Scots were victorious in both games by scores of 8-0 and 20-1, games settled in six and five innings respectively. After today, Alma is now 14-6 overall in 2012 and 2-0 in the league, while the Hornets fell to 0-2 in the MIAA and 1-9 for the season.
In game one, the Scots scored two runs in the first, two in the third, three in the fifth and one in the sixth to secure the 8-0 win. Jr. 2B Kayla Smart (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) led the way by going four for four with four runs batted in. Fr. 3B Lea Lusk (Columbiaville, Mich./Lakeville) was two for three with an RBI, while Sr. 1B Emily Ross (Buchanan, Mich./Buchanan) scored three runs. Jr. P Louise Rezmer (Essexville, Mich./Bay City All-Saints) through six innings for the win and had 10 strikeouts.
In the nightcap, Alma took control early by scoring nine runs in the bottom of the first and seven in the bottom of the second for a 16-0 lead after two. After giving up a run in the top of the fourth inning, the Scots came back for four in the bottom of the frame en route to the 20-1 win.
The offensive output was spread around for the Scots, but some of the highlights included Jr. SS Erin Rodes (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth), who was two for two with four RBI's. Also, Lusk was two for two with three RBI's and Smart added two hits on two at bats with a homerun and 2 RBI's. In additon, Ross scored two runs and had 3 RBI's in the victory. Fr. P Samantha Pierce (Clarklake, Mich./Michigan Center) pitched the five innings, allowing three hits in securing the win.
The Scots continue MIAA play on Saturday, when they travel to Adrian College to take on the Bulldogs. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
