Alma Softball hosted Aquinas College on Sunday afternoon at Scots Park

On a sunny, warm Sunday afternoon, the Alma College Scots hosted Aquinas College in a non-league doubleheader at Scots Park. The games were scheduled last minute as the Scots got rained out at Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon. But the visitors spoiled the day by beating Alma in both games, 5-0 and 4-1, for the sweep.

In game one, the Saints won by a margin of 5-0 as they scored one run in the fourth, three in the fifth and one in the seventh inning to secure the victory. Jr. P Louise Rezmer (Essexville, Mich./Bay City All Saints) pitched a complete game for Alma and gave up ten hits but finished with eight strikeouts.

The nightcap did not get much better for the Scots as they dropped a 4-1 decision to Aquinas. The visitors scored a run in the first, two in the fifth and one in the seventh inning en route to the win. Alma scored their lone run with back to back doubles in the bottom of the seventh by Sr. 1B Emily Ross (Buchanan, Mich./Buchanan) and Jr. DH Kayla Smart (Jenison, Mich./Jenison). But, the home team could not add to the comeback and ultimately fell to the Saints.

Ross and Smart had all four hits for the Scots in the second game and in the circle, Fr. P Breu Olling (Breckenridge, Mich./Breckenridge) took the loss, giving up eight hits and three earned runs in her 4.1 innings pitched.Fr. P Samantha Pierce (Clarklake, Mich./Michigan Center) went 1.2 innings and gave up five hits and a run, while Fr. P Allison Rigling (Negaunee, Mich./Negaunee) threw an inning with two strikeouts.

Alma continues play on Wednesday, when they begin MIAA action at Kalamazoo College, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
