Alma Softball splits with Ohio Northern University

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Alma College Softball team continued their 2012 season on Thursday when they hosted Ohio Northern University at Scots Park. The two teams split the doubleheader with Alma winning game one 4-0 and the Polar Bears taking the nightcap by a score of 4-1. The Scots are now 12-4 on the season, while ONU leaves town with a mark of 8-4.

In the first game, the Scots scored one run in the bottom of the first inning and three more in the bottom of the fifth and then rode the arm of Jr. P Louise Rezmer (Essexville, Mich./Bay City All-Saints) for the 4-0 victory. Jr. RF Amanda Schneider (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) went one for three with a run scored and Jr. 3B Erin Rodes (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth) finished the game going one for three with two runs batted in.

In the second game, Ohio Northern jumped on Alma starting pitcher Fr. Cori Witham (North Muskegon, Mich./North Muskegon) for four runs and five hits in 3.2 innings pitched. Fr. P Samantha Pierce (Clarklake, Mich./Michigan Center) went the final 3.1 and did not allow a run and gave up only two hits.

Alma fell behind after the Polar Bears scored two runs each in the top of the third and fourth innings. The only offense that the Scots could generate was one run in the bottom of fifth that made the score 4-1, which was the final margin of victory for ONU.

Schneider led a challenged offensive attack by going two for four and Rodes had an RBI and was one for one. Sr. C Becca Dewyse (Bay City, Mich./Bay City All-Saints) finished one for three in the loss.

The Scots will next play on Saturday when they travel to Ohio Wesleyan University for a doubleheader that begins at 1:00 p.m.
