Alma Men's Soccer defeats Adrian 3-1

The Alma Men's Soccer team hosted Adrian College on Saturday afternoon and walked off the pitch with their first MIAA win of the season, as they topped the Bulldogs by a margin of 3-1 at Scotland Yard. The victory improved the Scots to 4-5 on the year (1-3) in the league, while Adrian is now 1-6-1 (0-4 MIAA) in 2011.

The Scots got on the board first as Fr. CB David Gettel (Madison Heights, Mich./Lamphere) scored off of a throw in from Fr. M/F Mike Smith (Saginaw, Mich./Nouvel Catholic Central) at the 27:55 mark for a 1-0 lead. The Scots increased the lead to 2-0 at 31:50, when Sr. M Dirk Roskam (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) scored on a foul kick by Jr. M Matt Kuberski (Port Huron, Mich./Port Huron)

The Bulldogs fought back though and cut their deficit to 2-1, the halftime score, as Jamie Brower scored for Adrian at 38:08.

At 52:36, the Scots scored the only goal of the second half, as Fr. D Nick Peper (Northville, Mich./Northville) scored unassisted to give the home team a 3-1 lead that would prove to be the margin of victory. 

On the day, Adrian outshot Alma by a margin of 18-15 (10-8 shots on goal) and individually, Kuberski led the Scots with three shots on goal. So. GK Graham Wallace (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern) had nine saves, earning the win for Alma.

The Scots will next play on Saturday, October 1, when they host MIAA rival Kalamazoo College at Scotland Yard. The game will start at 2:30 p.m.
