Alma Men's Soccer concluded 2011 regular season on Wednesday with a 4-2 loss at home against Calvin College

On Wednesday afternoon, the Alma College Men's Soccer team hosted Calvin College for Senior Day 2011 at Scotland Yard. After the Scots scored an early goal, the MIAA Champions Knights buckled down and was able to come away with a 4-2 victory. Alma ended their 2011 season with a final record of 5-12-2 and 2-10-2 in the MIAA.

Five seniors played their final game in a Scots uniform on Wednesday afternoon - Cameron Alman (Troy, Mich./Athens), Eric Foster (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake), Chris Geopfrich Traverse City, Mich./West), Dirk Roskam (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) and Doug Smith (Waterford, Mich./Notre Dame Prep)

The entire Alma College athletic family says thank you to these five outstanding young men for their contributions to the program over their four years on campus. You will be missed but not forgotten!  

The Scots got on the board first at 14:17, when Jr. M/D Matt Kuberski (Port Huron, Mich./Port Huron) connected on a long foul kick that eluded Calvin GK Michael Dolan for a 1-0 Alma lead. The Knights tied the score at 27:38 and then, just as halftime was approaching, the visitors got one to find the net with just 11 seconds left to go ahead 2-1.

Two goals seven minutes apart at 53:40 and 60:48 gave Calvin a commanding 4-1 advantage and the league champs were not about to give up the lead. But, Alma never quit battling and at 87:30, cut the lead to the final decision of 4-2.

The goal resulted when So. F Matteo Capicchioni (West Bloomfield, Mich./West Bloomfield) headed in a free kick by honored senior Smith that got passed Knights GK Mirza Harambasic.
