Scots Softball takes game one from Olivet 5-0, follows up with a 12-1 (5 innings) victory in game two

The Scots Softball team hosted MIAA foe Olivet College on Wednesday afternoon and came away with a doubleheader sweep, winning the first game 5-0, and coming away with a 12-1 decision in five innings in the nightcap. Alma leads the league with a 12-2 record (27-7 overall), while the Comets are now 14-16 in 2010 and 6-8 in the MIAA.

In the opener, Jr. P Tara Leddy (Saginaw, MI/Swan Valley) pitched a complete game four-hitter, striking out seven and walking just one batter, as she improved to 11-4 on the season. Alma scored two runs in the bottom of the first as So. 1B Emily Ross (Buchanan, MI/Buchanan) rocked a home-run over the centerfield fence for the 2-0 lead.

Alma closed out the game with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, as Jr. CF Kelly Koenigsknecht (Fowler, MI/Fowler) and Jr. 3B Erika Brower (Allegan, MI/Allegan) each had RBI's.

In game two, the Scots took control early by scoring three runs in each of the first two innings and then putting a five-spot on the board in the third, to take a 11-1 lead into the fourth. Alma scored a run in the top of the fifth to make it an 11-run game, and the Scots earned the sweep.

 Jr. P Brittany Grys (Portland, MI/Portland) pitched five innings for the win, giving up two hits and striking out six, to run her record to 8-1 on the season. Four Alma players had two hits in the nightcap, led by Sr. LF Kelsey Rightenburg (Lexington, MI/Croswell-Lexington), who had three RBI's in the game.

Sr. SS Houston Verbeck (Burton, MI/Flint-Kearsley) had two RBI's and a run scored, while So. PH Erin Pintek (Flushing, MI/Flushing), Ross and So. DP Dana Fend (Hesperia, MI/Hesperia) each contributed RBI's in the win.
