Leddy's 12 strikeouts lead Alma Softball past Anderson 5-0 in game 1; Kelsey Rightenburg's hit past second base gives Scots walk-off win in game two

On a sunny, coolish April afternoon, the Scots Softball team hosted HCAC opponent Anderson University at Scots Park for a doubleheader. Alma won both games on Senior Day and Pink Day 2010, improving their record to 23-7 in 2010 (8-2 MIAA). The Ravens fell to 14-14 overall and they are 6-2 in the HCAC thus far in the season.

Four seniors were honored on Friday - RF Sarah Johnson (Portland, MI/Portland),  2B Kasey Miller (Grand Ledge, MI/Grand Ledge), LF Kelsey Rightenburg (Lexington, MI/Croswell-Lexington), and SS Houston Verbeck (Burton, MI/Flint-Kearsley) - and they responded with two non-league victories.

In game one, Jr. P Tara Leddy (Saginaw, MI/Swan Valley) pitched a gem of a game to pick up the seven-inning victory. She gave up just three hits and had a career-high 12 srikeouts. So. C Becca DeWyse (Bay City, MI/Bay City All Saints) went two for three with two RBI's, while Rightenburg and Jr. 3B Erika Brower (Allegan, MI/Allegan) each knocked a run across.

The second game was scoreless until the top of the sixth inning, when Anderson grabbed a 1-0 lead. The Ravens' P Monica Crowe and Alma's Jr. P Brittany Grys (Portland, MI/Portland) conducted a true pitcher's duel that came down to the last inning.

The Scots won the game in the bottom of the seventh with one hit and two Ravens errors. The deciding miscue scored Alma pinch runners So. Camille Dittmar (Highland, MI/Milford) and Jr. Chelsea Jensen (Sparta, MI/Sparta) on a ground ball by Rightenburg.

Alma next plays at home on April 28, when they host Olivet College in an MIAA doubleheader. The games are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. at Scots Park. The Scots will play at Hope College on the 27th and at Kalamazoo on May 1st for the league regular season finale.
