The Scots (2-2), split a pair of games during the second day of their spring trip in Orlando, FL. Alma dropped the first game to Capital University by a score of 5-4, before winning the nightcap, 11-5, against Hiram College.
In the opener, Fr. Louise Rezmer, (Essexville, MI/Bay City All Saints) took the loss in her college debut. She went six innings, giving up six hits with six strikeouts. The Scots led most of the game but a three-run sixth inning by Capital proved to be the winning margin.
Alma scored first with two runs in the second and single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Sr. Houston Verbeck (Burton, MI/Kearsley) led off the second with a double and Jr. Erika Brower (Allegan, MI/Allegan) was walked. So. Camille Dittmar (Highland, MI/Milford scored Verbeck with a sacrifice fly and Jr. Kelly Koenigsknecht (Fowler, MI/Fowler) laced an RBI single to right, scoring Brower.
In the fourth inning, So. Becca DeWyse (Bay City, MI/All Saints) hit a single to centerfield and was knocked home by Sr. Kelsey Rightenburg (Lexington, MI/Crosswell-Lexington)
In the nightcap Alma opened the scoring with a single by Sr. Kasey Miller (Grand Ledge, MI/Grand Ledge) and a double by DeWyse. Keonigsknecht opened the third inning with a single and later scored on a single by So. Emily Ross (Buchanan, MI/Buchanan). Hiram scored single run in the second and three in the fourth inning to go up on the Scots 4-2.
Alma rallied for eight runs with a six-hit sixth inning, as Koenigsknecht had two hits including a triple, and Ross had a triple and a walk, with two RBI's in the inning. Jr. Tara Leddy (Saginaw, MI/Swan Valley) earned her second win of the season, going the full seven innings.
