On Sunday the Scots opened the 2010 season with an 8-0 win over Hanover College, before losing the nightcap, 11-2, to Augustana (IL). The two games marked the first of ten contests over the next week for the Scots, who are playing the games in Orlando, FL.
Jr. Tara Leddy (Saginaw, MI/Swan Valley) picked up the win, giving up two hits and striking out six. Jr. Kelly Koenigsknecht (Fowler, MI/Fowler) opened the season with a leadoff triple and scored two pitches later by a single by Sr. Kelsey Rightenburg (Lexington, MI/Croswell-Lexington). A seven-run fifth included RBI singles by So. Camille Dittmar (Highland, MI/Milford), Koenigsknecht, Sr. Kasey Miller (Grand Ledge, MI/Grand Ledge) and Jr. Katie Gruber (Webberville, MI/Webberville)
In the second game, Augustana College (IL) used an 11-hit attack to beat the Scots by a score of 11-2. Jr. Brittany Grys (Portland, MI/Portland) took her first loss of the season, going three innings before being relieved by Erin Pintek (Flushing, MI/Flushing)
The Scots continue their Spring Break trip with four games on Tuesday. The contests are at 1:30 p.m. with Marywood University and 3:30 p.m. against Cedarville College. The Junior Varsity will play a doublheader against Muskegon Community College.
