The Scots' Softball team concluded a doubleheader with Saint Mary's College on Saturday at Scots Park, by notching a come-from-behind 4-3 victory on a sunny but chilly afternoon. The win put the Scots at 6-2 in league play and 16-9 overall, while the Belles fell to 4-2 in the MIAA and 18-4 in 2009.
After a scoreless first two and a half innings, Saint Mary's struck for three runs on four hits to take the 3-0 lead into the top of the third inning. Finally, in the top of the fifth inning, Alma got to the Belles and scored a run by PR Katie Gruber (for C Sarah Seals), when LF Kelsey Rightenburg singled for an RBI and cutting the lead to 3-1.
In the top of the sixth inning, the Scots were able to tie the game at 3-3, when 2B Casey Miller singled and SS Houston Verbeck homered to left center. Alma scored the final run of the game in the top of the seventh inning, when CF Kelly Koenigsknecht scored an unearned run, when RF Sarah Johnson reached base on an error with her sacrifice bunt attempt.
P Tara Leddy closed out the game for the Scots by going the last one and two-third innings, and secured the win with a called third strike in the bottom half of the frame and giving Alma the 4-3 win.
