SOFTBALL: Scots Keep Bats Going, Take Two from Bluffton

The Scots played some catch up on their schedule today as they swung by Bluffton College to play a couple of games that had been postponed earlier this month and came away with two big wins behind another outsanding offensive performance.

In the first game of the day, the Scots jumped out to a two run lead in the first inning and piled it on with six run innings in the fourth and sixth to bring home the 14-2 mercy rule win.

Katie Koechling (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) got the win for the Scots on the mound, pitching a complete game six hitter while stirking out five and giving up only one earned run.

From the plate, senior centerfielder Missy Morcom (Chelsea) went three for four with a single, double and triple while driving in three and scoring three. Houston Verbeck (Flint/Kearsley) went two for four including a homerun and Sarah Johnson (Portland) also added two hits in the game.

Game two was a little closer for the Maroon and Cream but their five run third inning proved to be the difference in the 12-7 game.

Tara Leddy (Saginaw/Cedar Valley) pitched six strong innings and picked up the win for the Scots before giving way to Koechling who closed out the game. Leddy gave up 10 hits while striking out six on the day.

Taylor Erwin (Fenton) had an outstanding performance from the plate as she went three for four with four RBI's and a run scored. Johnson, Briittany Fales (Midland/Dow), and Sarah Seals (Alma) all went two for three and knocked in a total of three runs while scoring seven collectively in the win.

Tomorrow, the Scots will be playing in the Defiance Tournament. Check back for updates.
