KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Alma College softball rebounded from tough losses Saturday to defeat Kalamazoo 13-0 and 10-0, respectively. With the wins, Alma improves to 17-7 overall and 6-2 in MIAA action.
Game one saw freshman Katie Koechling (Wheaton, Ill./North) throw five innings, striking out five and scattering just two hits in the 13-0 shutout. Big hitters for the Scots included Missy Morcom (Chelsea) who was 3-for-4 at the plate, scoring two runs and knocking in another. Emily Blahnik (Corunna) was 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBI for the game.
Game two combined pitchers Alyssa Gooch (Charlotte) and Sarah Tipton (Perrysburg, Ohio) for the 10-0 shutout. Gooch worked four innings, striking out five and allowing just one hit while Tipton threw one inning, striking out one.
Key hitters in game two included Amy Gaudard (Mt. Pleasant) who was 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Both Sarah Seals (Alma) and Taylor Erwin (Fenton) generated a hit apiece to go along with two RBI each.
Alma returns to action Thursday when it faces rival Hope College in Holland at 3:30 p.m.
