2026 Volleyball Season Preview

ALMA, Mich. – The Alma College volleyball program enters year four under the direction of Head Coach Leah Good, and begin their 2026 campaign this weekend with four matches at the Vicki Staton Memorial Tournament, hosted by Washington & Jefferson.

Alma was picked to finish seventh in the 2026 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) preseason poll. The Scots enter the season looking to build on a 9-17 overall record from a year ago, including a 2-6 mark in conference play, while developing a roster that features a mix of experienced veterans and emerging young talent.

Athletes to Watch

Sophomore outside hitter Emily Carling looks to build on an impressive freshman campaign. Carling recorded 48 service aces in 2025, the ninth-most in program history, while averaging 0.52 aces per set to rank third in the MIAA. She also led the Scots in points (247.5) and kills (192).

Junior defensive specialist/libero Grace Steiner will anchor the Alma defense after a strong sophomore season. Steiner finished 2025 among the MIAA's top defenders with 414 total digs, averaging 4.45 digs per set.

Senior middle blocker Katelyn Schell returns for her final season looking to make her presence felt at the net. Schell narrowly missed reaching the 50-block mark last season, finishing with 49 blocks, and will look to reclaim her role as a defensive force in the middle.

Road Ahead

The Scots will play all four matches at the Vicki Staton Memorial Tournament on the PAC Digital Network. Alma opens Friday against host Washington & Jefferson at 3 p.m., followed by a 5 p.m. matchup against Oberlin. The tournament continues Saturday with a doubleheader against Waynesburg at 11 a.m. and Meredith at 1 p.m.
Alma will return home for its 2026 home opener next Tuesday, Sept. 8, when the Scots host Bluffton at 6:30 p.m. inside Art Smith Arena.
