Box Score ALMA, Mich. — The Alma College (6-9, 0-0 MIAA)l team dropped a 3-1 decision to Olivet College (4-13, 0-0 MIAA) on Tuesday evening at Art Smith Arena, falling by set scores of 25-20, 22-25, 25-21 and 25-22.
Alma opened the match with 12 kills in the first set but committed nine errors as Olivet took the opening frame, 25-20. The Scots responded in the second set, hitting .190 while limiting Olivet to an .087 hitting percentage. Alma used 12 kills and just four errors to even the match at one set apiece with a 25-22 victory.
Olivet regained the momentum in the third set, edging Alma 25-21. The Scots battled throughout the fourth set, recording a match-high 16 kills, but Olivet closed out the match with a 25-22 win.
Nevea Bush led Alma offensively with 15 kills, while Mallorie Nevadomski added 10 and Maggie McKale finished with nine. Rudy Maynard recorded a team-high 21 assists, with Grace Droste adding 20.
Nevadomski also paced the Scots defensively with 20 digs. Emily Carling contributed 16 digs, while Maren DeBeau added 11. Droste led Alma with three service aces, and Katelyn Schell recorded a team-high four blocks.
Alma finished the match with 50 kills, five service aces, six blocks and 73 digs. Olivet totaled 49 kills, nine aces, 14 blocks and 84 digs.
The Scots move to 6-9 on the season and will travel to Albion on Friday to initiate conference play.
