Alma, MI – Alma College Women's Lacrosse was in action on Wednesday night, hosting Saint Mary's College in MIAA conference play. The Scots were defeated 8-5 on the night.
Saint Mary's opened the goal scoring, netting the first three goals of the game across the first quarter. With Alma trailing 3-0 after one, the Scots got on the board just over a minute into the second quarter.
Sarah Bollinger scored a pair of goals in the front half of the period to get Alma back within one at 3-2. However, the Belles would score a goal with just 23 seconds left in the half, and led 4-2 at the break.
Out of the half, SMC scored first, with
Makenna Pobocik answering for Alma. With the score at 5-3, the visitors powered in two late goals, putting the Scots down by four heading into the final period. Pobocik scored twice in the fourth quarter to complete her first career hat-trick, but the Scots comeback fell just short, 8-5 the final.
Alma outshot Saint Mary's 28-19 in the loss, and collected 24 ground balls to the Belles' 13.
Allyson Harvey collected a career high seven ground balls, also causing a turnover. Bollinger had four ground balls, four draw controls, and two caused turnovers.
Olivia Andrews also registered three ground balls in the loss, and
Grace Doherty caused a pair of turnovers. In the net,
Madison Ramirez made three saves.
Alma is back in action on Saturday, taking a trip to Kalamazoo to continue MIAA conference play.
