Women's Tennis Splits, Men Swept on Final Day in Florida

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Orlando, FL – Alma College Tennis was in action on Friday, taking part in a pair of matches against Concordia Wisconsin and Cornell. Alma's women split the day, defeating CUW, before falling to Cornell, while the men were swept.
 
MEN
Concordia Wisconsin 7, Alma 0
Against Concordia Wisconsin, play opened with the #1 doubles pairing of Jake Lasceski and Ashton Trnka falling 6-4. At #2, Alex Jonas and John Laxton fell 6-3, and the #3 team of Christian Beyers and Eli Festerling dropped a 6-3 decision.
 
In singles play, Lasceski fell 6-3, 6-1 at #1. At #2, Ashton Trnka dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision. The matchup at #3 saw Jacob McNew narrowly defeated 6-0, 7-6, 10-7. The #4 contest also went the distance, with Eli Festerling losing 4-6, 7-5, 10-6. At #5, Beyers lost 7-5, 6-0, and things rounded out with Logan Stack going down 7-6, 6-3 at #6.
 
Cornell 4, Alma 3
In their second contest of the day, Alma kicked things off with a win at #1 doubles, with Lasceski and Trnka coming out 6-4 winners. At #2, Beyers and Festerling lost 6-3, and the pairing of Laxton and Stack lost 6-0 at #3, giving Cornell the doubles point.
 
In singles play, Lasceski won 3-6, 6-2, 10-4 at #1. At #2, Trnka was defeated 6-1, 7-6. Festerling bounced back for Alma, winning 7-5, 6-4 at #3. The #4 match saw Beyers go down 6-2, 6-1, and Laxton found a similar fate at #5, 6-1, 6-1 the scores. Rounding things out at #6, Daniel Hickey won 6-2, 7-5.
 
WOMEN
Alma 7, CUW 0
On the women's side, the day started with a split at doubles. The #1 pairing of Karly Kushner and Leah Wronikowski won 6-1 at #1. Holly Hall and Jada Zerlaut lost 6-2, and the team of Kayden Alli and Izzy Troost won 6-3 at #3, giving Alma the team point.
In singles action, Kusner won 6-2, 6-1 at #1, and Wronikowski was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at #2. The #3 matchup went the distance, with Zerlaut winning 6-2, 1-6, 10-8. Hall won 6-3, 6-3 at #4, and Sophia Hauffe won 6-4, 6-1 at #5. Rounding things out was Laney Voisinet, who won 6-7, 6-1, 10-6 at #6.
 
Cornell 5, Alma 2
In their second game of the day, Kushner and Wronikowski lost 6-1 at #1 to open doubles play, and the #2 pairing of Zerlut and Hall was defeated 6-2. Alli and Voisinet paired up at #3, but were narrowly defeated 7-6.
 
In singles play, Kushner lost 6-1, 6-1 at #1, and Wronikowski was felled 6-4, 6-1 at #2. Zerlaut picked up a win at #3 by scores of 6-2, 3-6, 10-7. Hall lost 6-2, 6-2 at #4, and Hauffe dropped a 6-2, 7-5 decision at #5. Closing things out, Troost won 7-6, 6-2 at #6.
 
The Scots women are back in action at home against St. Mary's on March 28 to open MIAA play, while the men play next at Adrian on March 31 in their conference opener.
