Softball Places Two More in W Column With Wins Over Alvernia and Capital

Alma won 3-1 and 4-3 on the day

Clermont, FL – Alma College Softball continued play at The Spring Games on Thursday, taking on Alvernia and Capital. The Scots swept the day, winning by scores of 3-1 and 4-3.

Alma 3, Alvernia 1
Alma's opening game of the day was low scoring, with the Scots striking in the 1st  inning. A failed pickoff attempt saw Peyton Fether race home to give Alma a 1-0 lead. The Scots doubled their lead in the next inning, with Sophia Somerset doing the damage. An RBI single to left field scored Camille Lozmack. Alvernia hit back in the 4th, but Sydni Wolverton scored on a groundout to pad the lead. The scoring ended there, and Alma walked out 3-1 winners.

The Scots got hits from six different players. With McKenna Salley the only Alma hitter to get on base twice with a walk drawn. Morgan Westall (4-0) went all seven innings, allowing three hits and striking out six batters.

Alma 4, Capital 3
The Scots scored first in game two as well, with Lily Thompson scoring on a Comet error in the 2nd inning. Natalia Rodriguez doubled the lead in the 3rd, singling home Julia Duncan to make it 2-0. Lozmack added to the margin in the 5th, clubbing an RBI single which scored Adelyn Dorotz. Rodriguez then struck again, scoring what would be the game-winning run on a sac fly. Capital managed three runs in the 6th, but Alma held on to take a 4-3 win.

Rodriguez accounted for half of Alma's runs, and Duncan was the only Alma batter to make it to the base path more than once. Mikaylyn Kenney (2-1) pitched all seven innings in the win. She scattered five hits, and struck out three.

Alma is back in action tomorrow with two more games before returning home to Michigan.
