Clermont, FL – Alma College Softball opened the 2026 season on Sunday, taking on Lebanon Valley College and Illinois College. The Scots took both games on the day, defeating LVC 4-0, and Illinois College 9-5.
Alma 4, Illinois College 0
In their season opener, Alma found their way onto the scoreboard in the top of the 3
rd inning.
Peyton Fether singled up the middle and stole second base.
Haylie Alsip then delivered on an RBI triple to score Fether. Moments later,
Julia Duncan hit a sac fly to center field, and Alsip scampered home to double the Alma lead. Things stayed put until the 7
th inning, when
Christa Munn hit a single to right fiel.
Jayden Townsend entered as a pinch runner and was advanced t 3
rd on a pair of bunts. A sac fly from Fether scored Townsend, and an RBI single from Alsip saw
Sophia Paryaski make it home to push the advantage to 4-0, where it stayed put.
Alsip led the offense, going 3-4 with a pair of RBI and two stolen bases in the win. Fether went 2-3 with an RBI as well.
Morgan Westall (1-0) pitched a complete game shutout in her season debut, striking out nine in the win.
Alma 9, Illinois College 5
In game two, Alma wasted no time getting on the board, with
Jordyn Porter hitting an RBI single to right field to score Alsip and Fether in the bottom of the 1
st. Illinois College scored in the top of the 4
th, and tied the game at two in the top of the 5
th. It was Duncan in the bottom of that same inning that gave Alma the lead back at 3-2, thanks to an RBI single to center that scored Alsip for the second time in the game. The Lady Blues weren't done, scoring three runs in the top of the 6
th to take the lead at 5-3. Alma clawed their way back into the game, with RBI singles from Fether and Alsip scoring
Katelyn Thomas and Townsend. With the game tied at 5-5, a Porter sac fly scored Fether for the go-ahead run, and Duncan added insurance with an RBU single to score Alsip again.
Camille Lozmack added to the cushion with an RBI base knock of her own to make it 8-5, and she came around to score on one more RBI single to left field off the bat of
Kendal Holzinger. The Scots shut things down in the 7
th inning, and walked out 9-5 winners.
Alma hammered out 15 hits in the win, with
Katelyn Thomas leading at 3-4 on the afternoon. Fether, Duncan, and Lozmack all collected two-hit games, and Alsip reached base three times in the contest.
Mikaylyn Kenney got the start, pitching five innings in the win, she struck out seven and allowed just four hits.
Bella Treloar (1-0) picked up the win in relief. The sophomore pitched two innings, and struck out one batter.
The Scots are back in action tomorrow with another pair of games.
