Alma 17, St. John Fisher 12
In their first game of the day, Alma wasted no time scoring. The Scots used RBI singles from
Julia Duncan,
Sophia Somerset,
Christa Munn, and
Mckenna Salley to put up five runs in the 1
st inning. Alma increased the lead to eight in the next frame, when Munn hit an RBI double to right center to score a pair of runs, and later came around to score on a Cardinal error. The Scots led 8-0 after two innings. The SJF offense wouldn't lie dormant for long, with the Cardinals collecting three runs in the top of the 3
rd inning to cut into the Scots lead. It was
Jordyn Porter who would answer for Alma, knocking in
Haylie Alsip with a single to left field in the bottom of the 3
rd, and
Peyton Fether who put a ball in play to score
Sophia Paryaski.
With the lead at 10-3 in Alma's favor, SJF ripped off a nine-spot in the top of the 5
th, taking the lead at 12-0 as the game entered the late stages. The Scots' offense was up to the test, continuing to throw runs up on the board. Alma answered in the bottom of the 5
th, when
Katelyn Thomas drew a bases-loaded walk to drive in a run. There was more foot traffic on the base paths in the 6
th. A wild pitch from St. John Fisher saw the game tied at 12-12, and it was Munn who delivered the go-ahead runs with a bases-loaded RBI single to right field. Leading 14-12, Alma tacked on three more runs courtesy of Thomas and Salley, pushing the lead to 17-12. The Scots shut things down in the 7
th and took home a five-run victory.
Munn was 5-5 in the win with five RBI, Porter was 3-4 with an RBI and a walk, and the Scots got two-hit games from
Camille Lozmack,
Natalia Rodriguez, and Salley.
Morgan Westall got the start, pitching four innings. She struck out four with no walks and 11 hits.
Bella Treloar (2-0) picked up the win in relief, striking out five and allowing just two hits over three innings pitched.
Eastern 8, Alma 4
In game two, Alma was the first to the scoreboard. It took until the 3
rd inning for the Scots to open the scoring, when Duncan singled up the middle to score Alsip from third base. The 1-0 lead was short lived, as the Eastern offense answered with seven runs in the bottom of the inning. Down 7-1, Alma hit back in the 5
th when Alsip hit a sac fly to center field, scoring
Julia Nowicki. The opposition once again answered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning, and things were quiet in the 6
th. Alma started to rally in the 7
th inning, and it was Rodriguez who hit a triple to center field, scoring Alsip and
Sydni Wolverton in the process. With the lead cut down from six to four, the rally was cut short, and the final score rested at 8-4.
Fether was 4-4 in the game, and Duncan went 2-3 with an RBI. Six other Scots got involved with a base hit in the loss.
Mikaylyn Kenney (0-1) got the start in the circle. She pitched two innings, striking out one.
