Women's Basketball Sees Comeback Fall Short Against No. 13 Hope

Kaminske led with 17 points

Alma, MI – Alma College Women's Basketball was in action on Saturday, hosting No. 13 Hope College in the 2026 Be Like Tye game. Alma lost narrowly by a score of 69-62.

The Scots opened the game hot, hitting on five of their first ten field goal attempts in the game and holding Hope to one of six from the floor. Alma led 12-3, only for the visitors to string together a 14-0 run of their own. At the end of the first quarter, Hope led 17-12. Alam got back within two points at the halfway mark of the second quarter, outscoring Hope 8-5 in the early going. With the Scots down 22-20, the Flying Dutch went on to score ten straight in the last three minutes of the half. At halftime, Alma trailed 32-20.

Out of the halftime break, Alma and Hope traded baskets, with the Scots slowly chipping into the visitor's lead. Five minutes in, the hosts had managed to get back within nine at 40-31. However, it was another ten point run from Hope that nearly took Alma out of the game. A late three from the Scots saw the home five head into the fourth quarter down 50-34. A pair of made jumpers put the Hope lead at 21 points to open the final period. Not ready to be done, Alma strung together nine straight points over a two-minute period to get back into things. The Flying Dutch led by 15 with three minutes to play, and furious 17-9 Alma run wasn't enough to overcome the deficit, with the final score at 69-62.

Cadence Kaminske led Alma's scorers with 17 points, followed by Breckyn Werner with 16 and six rebounds. Molly Deurloo also scored 10, while collecting a team-high eight rebounds.

The Scots drop to 9-12, 5-7 in the MIAA, and are back in action on Wednesday, with a trip to Albion on the books.
